With a wedding, of course, comes a hen do and as bridesmaids, the lovely Sara and I had the honour of organising Miss Holmes’ do. I will be sharing all of the activities that we arranged in the run up to the wedding next week, but first up is a delightful lunch at a lovely restaurant, The Bridge at Bidford on Avon.
We stayed in a village just outside of Stratford upon Avon, and within walking distance of Bidford on Avon (more on our hen pad in a later post) and after some googling around we found that The Bridge, a pub in Bidford on Avon, was the very best place to eat.
So we booked in a lunch for 15 people. The team kindly put on a set menu for us so that we could all control spends, with two starter options, two main and two desserts. Two courses was a bargainous £15 and three was £20.
We chose a lunch because our evening plans involved a night out in Stratford upon Avon, and trial and error in the past has told us that going out for a big meal just before you go out on a big night out never works. Everyone is too full and the drinks don’t flow as freely. But as keen foodies, we couldn’t forgo our gourmet food fix.
The Bridge really was the perfect choice for us. For starter we chose between a Fig and Roquefort salad with Balsamic glaze or Coarse pork and garlic terrine with chutney and crusty bread.
I opted for the latter, which managed the tremendous feat of being tasty without being too filling. Those that had the fig salad waxed lyrical about it too, and I must say the fresh figs looked particularly enticing.
For main Blackened Cajun chicken breast with sour cream and chives, tossed mixed salad and French fries or Pan fried pork fillet medallions with apples, cider and creme fraiche, greens and croquette potato.
Those that opted for the pork are still talking about how tasty the sauce was now, and the chicken salad was fresh and flavoursome with a nice kick from the cajun spices.
The puddings looked totally delicious, a creme brûlée and baileys cheesecake – and whilst I didn’t indulge in either, as soon as they arrived I certainly wish I had!
Not only was the food delicious, but the surroundings at the Bridge were perfect for the sunny day that greeted us (though you can’t quite tell from the pictures). We sat outside on the balcony overlooking the river and sipped pimms in the sunshine with fantastic company, surely nothing could be more perfect?
So, if you happen to the in the Stratford area, we highly recommend that you head to Bidford on Avon for a super tasty lunch, from a friendly and helpful team.
